Well, I walked through the shadow of the valley of death, and all that I got was a sunburnt neck. So I kept on walking, and wound up in the ring of fire.
Well, the devil said, "Son, come and listen to me, I'll give you one damn chance on the count of three to save your soul, and go back home."
Well, I knew just what the devil would say. He'd say, "Son, just throw your soul my way. I'll send you on yours, and you can go back home."
"Oh, but if you don't... you're gonna burn baby, burn. You're gonna burn baby, burn."
I looked back on life and the things I'd done, and figured I deserved whatever should come. Oh, my soul, I guess I was home.
And on the count of one, two, three, man, the way he looked at me when I said, "I'll burn baby, burn. I'm gonna burn baby, burn."
Well, I woke up in a hospital bed to the sound of doctors come to check my head. It was a miracle, they said, that I wasn't dead.
Well, a few weeks later on when I was home, I found a note in my coat, and read what it said:
"Son, well done.
You've passed my test,
And now your home.
Love, GOD"
